2002 Campaign Highlights
"Facing the Challenge the United Way" was the 2002 campaign theme and face the challenge we did! Hundreds of volunteers came forward to help us raise over 3 million dollars; these individuals showed their dedication to our community. They know that their investment in Midland through United Way will change conditions and create lasting results.
Many local companies increased in employee giving. Wal-Mart increased in employee giving by 57 percent. Target showed a 75 percent increase, Key Energy reported an 80 percent increase and HEB followed with an unbelievable 157 percent increase.
Other companies increased their participation in the community campaign through unique opportunities and events such as "Bustin Clay for United Way Sporting Clay Championship," coordinated by Halliburton Services and Burlington Resources. By engaging many long time supporters of United Way and equally as many new supporters, this event hit a bulls-eye raising $15,000 for the United Way campaign and providing a great time for all involved.
"Dine-Out Day for United Way," an event made successful by the participation of 23 local restaurants who made a commitment to donate a portion of their proceeds to the United Way campaign. Many Midlanders participated in this tremendously successful event by dining out at local restaurants.
These are just a few highlights from our campaign. Wed also like to acknowledge the many people in Midland who do not have an opportunity to give through their workplace. Their participation in this community effort is essential to achieving our fundraising goals and the Midland Reporter Telegram helped us to reach them by printing pledge cards in the paper throughout the campaign.
In the end, this campaign successfully faced the challenges in Midland and we are well on our way to improving our community thanks to you!
United Way is the way Midland cares.
