2003 Campaign Highlights

During the 2003 Campaign, we once again witnessed the tremendous spirit of giving that exists in our community. The response to the community’s needs is genuine, immediate and without reserve.

With each new United Way campaign come volunteers, special events, media coverage, workplace campaigns, and much more. Each year Midland embraces the opportunity and challenge to invest in the lives of fellow Midlanders.

The impact of the United Way campaign in our community reaches everyone. As part of United Way of Midland employee rallies and fundraisers, hundreds of donuts are consumed, many meals are catered and many door prizes are awarded. Many of these goods and services are provided at discounted rates or are simply given as in-kind donations to help in the campaign effort. The generosity of local businesses and employees continues to amaze us—year after year.

Many Midlanders participated in Dine Out Day for United Way by dining out at local participating restaurants on October 21, 2003. Hundreds of sponsors, volunteers and participants had a hand in the success of Burlington Resources and Halliburton’s Bustin’ Clay for United Way, and Pure Resources’ Pure Drives for United Way Golf Tournament. The combination of these three special events brought in over $59,000 for the campaign.

This year the State and Federal Employee Campaigns experienced mixed results. Federal employees continued the recovery from the 2001 campaign with a noteworthy six percent increase in giving over the 2002 campaign. The State Employee campaign was faced with a smaller employee pool than in 2002 and more pending mergers and reductions; the campaign experienced a reduction of thirteen percent in contributions.

When the caring capacity of Midland unites the result is a long-term investment in what matters to our community. Through United Way you support programs that:

  • Help kids succeed
  • Promote health, wellness and independence
  • Strengthen and support families
  • Assist with basic and emergency needs

Thank you to everyone that took the time to invest in Midland through United Way.

United Way is the way Midland cares.
