2004 Youth Campaign
Local High School Students invest $12,500 in United Way of Midland Programs
On April 8, 2005, during the allocation phase of United Way of Midland's Youth Campaign, high school students from Coleman, Lee Freshman, Lee, Midland Christian, and Midland High learned how donations made to United Way of Midland are invested in programs that meet community needs.
The students participated in roundtable discussions with staff from program providers and then made on-site visits in order to learn more about United Way funded programs that address each of the following impact areas; helping kids succeed; promoting health, wellness and independence; strengthening and supporting families; and assisting in basic and emergency needs.
At the completion of the visits, the students discussed the programs, the impact areas, and then decided how to best allocate the $12,500 raised during the fall 2004 United Way Youth Campaign. They chose to allocate the money as follows:
- $4,590 to programs that help kids succeed;
- $2,490 to programs that strengthen and support families;
- $2,860 to programs that assist with basic and emergency needs;
- $2,560 to programs that promote health, wellness and independence.

United Way of Midland strongly believes in teaching local youth the importance of investing in their community. The Youth Campaign involves local students in the raising of funds to meet community needs and in the process of investing those funds. The allocation phase gives local high school students a voice in the funding of programs that positively impact our community.
