Community Impact: Information and Referral

Dial 2-1-1

Do you know of elderly friends and family needing home health care? A child in need of dental or medical assistance? Someone who has been laid off and in need of job training or help paying utility bills? To find out help for these people, just dial 2-1-1.

211 is the new abbreviated dialing code for FREE information and referrals about community health and human organizations and resources. While most people know to dial 9-1-1 to get help for emergencies and 4-1-1 to find a phone number, 211 serves as the first number to call to link individuals and families to appropriate resources and information. 211 is a service of Casa de Amigos with local match provided by United Way of Midland, Permian Basin Area Agency on Aging and the Permian Basin Workforce Development Board.

It can be frustrating and confusing to figure out where to call for help when family needs arise.

2-1-1 helps to eliminate some of the frustration. When a person calls 2-1-1, they will speak with a trained specialist that will assess the caller's needs. The 211 Area Information Center (AIC) maintains a comprehensive regional database of resources including federal, state and local government agencies, community based organizations and qualified private businesses and the certified staff specialist can quickly refer you to an appropriate agency or resource.

Call 211 if you have questions about community resources such as…

  • Social Services
  • Senior Services
  • Youth Services
  • State & Federal Agencies
  • Dental, Medical and Legal Services
  • Other health and human service needs

Spanish and English speaking 2-1-1 specialists are available. Interpreters for other languages can be provided. 211 is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is TDD/TTY accessible.

Note: 2-1-1 does not replace 9-1-1 for medical, police or fire emergencies.

Cell phone callers may access assistance by dialing 682.HELP (4357).
