On Thursday, September 1, 2005, United Way of Midland kicked off the 2005 Campaign with a press conference led by 2005 Campaign Chair, Frank Stowers.

Commenting on what United Way of Midland does, Mr. Stowers said, “Through the United Way, programs receive funding to assist people in need. But we don't stop there. United Way works to bring the entire community together to identify the causes of these needs and seek viable solutions. It takes Midlanders from all sectors to tackle the issues that matter most - the task of making Midland a better place to live for your family and mine!”

After recognizing Campaign volunteers and Loaned Executives, Mr. Stowers announced the goal.

“After meeting with this year’s campaign cabinet, discussing the needs in Midland as well as the many blessings we have as Midlanders right now, we are asking that you share in your blessings. Especially in light of Hurricane Katrina, we always need to be prepared. When we recognize what matters as the campaign cabinet has done, I know you want to help us achieve our goal of $3,250,000.00,” said Mr. Stowers.

Mr. Stowers ended the press conference with the following message:

“In closing, I am going leave you with the top two reasons to give – You should give to United Way because a strong community is a good place to come home to AND because what matters to you is results.

I encourage the community to participate in this campaign as we share our blessings that allows us to focus on the bottom-line results: the lives we change and the community we shape. We know that's what matters to you. I'm counting on you. – God Bless!”
