A Day in the Life of Your United Way of Midland Investment
  • 6 am - Working parents prepare their children for drop off at YMCA Child Development Center before heading to work.

  • 7 am - Mission Health Care Adult Day Service buses prepare to pick up elderly and disabled clients from their homes for a day of activities and quality care.

  • 8 am - Community Children’s Clinic staff begin their day of treating low income children allowing emergency rooms to focus on critical patients.

  • 9 am - A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer heads to court to provide a judge with independent assessment of a child who has been removed from their home due to abuse or neglect.

  • 10 am - A client of The Spring Board Center arrives to participate in the intensive outpatient substance abuse program.

  • 11 am - A local 11th grade class attends a Youth 4 Truth Peer Team Presentation (The Life Center) consisting of dramatizations and testimonials by high school and college – aged kids to promote choices of abstinence and help the students cope with peer pressure.

  • 12 pm - At a local elementary school campus, a Big Brothers Big Sisters “big” has lunch with his “little” and talks about their favorite movie.

  • 1 pm - A staff member from Community In Schools meets with a high school freshman at risk of dropping out to discuss problems at home and ways to stay in school.

  • 2 pm - At Centers for Children and Families a counseling session begins for a Midland family with anger management issues, reducing the possibility of abuse.

  • 3 pm - Families of Alzheimer patients arrive at the Alzheimer’s Association STAR Chapter for a meeting to help them understand more about the disease and the effects it can have on their loved one(s).

  • 4 pm - At a local elementary school campus, children enrolled in Camp Fire Kids Care play catch with friends while being supervised by trained Camp Fire staff, enabling their parents to work a full day.

  • 5 pm - Boys and Girls Club kids race to the gym for a game of basketball after completing their homework assignments.

  • 6 pm - A young Girl Scout learns about Zink the Zebra and respecting differences in other people during a troop meeting.

  • 7 pm - Teens overcoming an addiction to alcohol prepare to go home after attending a group counseling session at PDAP (Palmer Drug Abuse Program.)

  • 8 pm - A volunteer teaching English to his client wraps up this week’s tutoring session at Midland Need to Read.

  • 9 pm - Two Boy Scouts on a Scoutreach Venturing trip learn how to properly extinguish a campsite fire while learning many ways to protect our environment.

  • 10 pm - The evening curfew at Midland Fair Havens transitional housing program for women and their children is in place and residents prepare their children for bed after attending a weekly class to improve independent living skills.

  • 11 pm - The Texas helpline, 2-1-1 (Casa de Amigos), takes a call from an individual needing help with a utility bill.

  • 12 am - A homeless man enters the Salvation Army shelter for a safe place to spend the night.

  • 1 am - A Midland Rape Crisis & Children’s Advocacy Center volunteer goes to the hospital to provide counseling to a victim of sexual assault.

  • 2 am - American Red Cross provides emergency assistance and temporary housing for a family who has just lost their home to fire.

  • 3 am - An abused wife and mother checks into Safe Pace of the Permian Basin with her children for a place to stay while she begins to put her life back together.

  • 4 am - Unlock Ministries’ Opportunity Camp counselors wake-up early to prepare for a morning devotional and camp activity to strengthen the leadership skills and self-esteem of the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade campers.

  • 5 am - At Community and Senior Services, nutritious lunches are being prepared and packaged for Meals on Wheels deliver to homebound seniors.
