Susan Combs, Texas Agriculture Commissioner, will speak on Empowering Women to Improve Their Community at United Way of Midland’s Women’s Leadership Luncheon on October 16, 2002

October 10, 2002 - Midland, TX – The United Way of Midland will conduct its annual Women’s Leadership Luncheon, Wednesday, October 16, 2002, at The Petroleum Club, 501 W. Wall, in Downtown Midland. The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Texas Agricultural Commissioner, Susan Combs, will speak on empowering women to make a difference and improve the community they live in. Susan was sworn into office in 1999 as the state's 10th Commissioner of Agriculture and is the first woman to hold this position in the state's history. Susan has been involved with numerous non-profit agencies and received many awards due to her efforts in improving agriculture and related endeavors.

This event is open to the public and is part of the United Way of Midland 2002 Campaign. Reservations can be made by e-mail, at midlandcares@uwmidland.org; by calling the United Way Office at 685-7700; or by visiting the United Way of Midland office at the same address. Lunch cost is $11.50 per person. Reservations must be made by 5 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2002.

United Way of Midland assess the health and human service needs in Midland County and addresses those needs through the raising and distributing of funds to qualified 501(c)(3) health and human service programs. Our mission is to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.
