Wal-Mart presents $2,000 check to United Way of Midland; total donation from Wal-Mart will exceed $21,000
December 13, 2002 - Midland, TX Wal-Mart Supercenter (4517 N. Midland Dr.) will present a $2,000 check to United Way of Midland for the 2002 Campaign on Tuesday, December 17th, at 9 am at the Wal-Mart store. Mike McClanahan, General Manager of Wal-Mart, will present the check to Cynthia Y. Benson, Executive Director of United Way of Midland. The $2,000 is from the Wal-Mart corporate office.
Before the start of the 2002 United Way campaign, the Wal-Mart corporate office offered an additional $2,000 donation on behalf of local stores that surpassed employee donations from the previous year. In 2001, Wal-Mart employees donated approximately $6,000 to United Way of Midland. This year, employees donated $10,000 to the 2002 campaign, qualifying them for the $2,000 additional donation. Wal-Marts corporate office will also match this years $10,000 employee gift.
Wal-Marts total donation to the 2002 United Way of Midland Campaign is $22,000.
It is great to see corporate leaders encouraging employees to invest in their community, said Ms. Benson, Wal-Marts generous donation is an inspiring result of this.
United Way of Midland assesses the health and human service needs in Midland County and addresses those needs through the raising and distributing of funds to qualified 501(c)(3) health and human service programs. Our mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.
