Midland Area High School Students to invest $23,975 in United Way of Midland Programs on April 3

March 30, 2007 - Midland, TX – On Tuesday, April 3, the allocation phase of United Way of Midland’s Youth Campaign will take place. Local high school students will learn how donations made to United Way of Midland are invested in programs that meet community needs.

Students from the following Midland schools were invited to participate: Midland High School, Midland Freshman, Lee High School, Lee Freshman, Midland Christian School, Coleman High School, and Trinity School.

Approximately 20 students will participate in roundtable discussions to learn about United Way funded programs that address each of the following impact areas; helping kids succeed; promoting health, wellness and independence; strengthening and supporting families; and assisting in basic and emergency needs.

Following the discussion of 60 programs, the students will discuss and decide how to best allocate the $23,975 raised during the fall 2006 United Way Youth Campaign, which was a recording setting year of fundraising by the students. After the allocations decisions have been made, the students will make on-site visits to see first hand one organization and their program’s impact in Midland.

The roundtable discussions will take place at First United Methodist Church Youth Area located in the basement at 300 N. Main, beginning at 11:00 am and concluding at 2:00 pm. Program Provider site visits will take place from 2:15 to 2:45. Media representatives are encouraged to join us for the on-site visits, please call Amanda Siruta, 685-7708 for details and directions.
