Israel is a 6th grader who is at great risk of dropping out of school based on his life situation. His Unlock Ministries mentor worked with him after Fun Club last year because he was struggling with 5th grade math. Not only did he grasp the concepts, but his teacher began to see his intelligence shine through the "tough kid" persona. When he began to hang with the "wrong crowd" this year at school, his teacher called and asked the mentor to come have lunch with Israel. The teacher saw immediate improvement in Israel's motivation and choices after the mentor spent lunch at school. A mentor is much more than someone who reads and plays games with kids. They care deeply for students and have influence because their kids trust them. The 30-minute Fun Club can be truly lifechanging in its effects on children and it really makes school more fun for kids like Israel!
