Position Description | Our Partners

How does United Way invest in the community?
United Way of Midland is focused on four priority areas that we believe are essential building blocks for a great life: Healthy Community, Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, and Community Resiliency. Our approach is unique because we invest in programs that meet a need, achieve results and are good stewards of resources. Each year, people across our community benefit from programs and initiatives made possible through generous contributions.

Investment Grants
We support Midland, Martin, and Upton County through a network of partners that work collaboratively to provide comprehensive and coordinated services that will change lives and achieve results greater than any single organization.

Our Process
United Way of Midland provides annual grant opportunities through a competitive proposal process to organizations addressing our community’s most pressing needs. All grant applications are evaluated through a community-led review process, where dedicated volunteers assess proposals and allocate funding to support local collaborations and innovative approaches that create lasting impact.

Our Volunteers
Our volunteers play a vital role in shaping how United Way of Midland dollars are invested in the community. Each year, we fund local programs that have demonstrated effectiveness in addressing Midland’s most pressing needs. Through our Community Investment process, volunteers review funding requests, program outcomes, financial data, and past performance to ensure resources are allocated where they will have the greatest impact.

Time Commitment
Spring Funding Cycle:  The review period runs from March and May, with a total time commitment of approximately 15–25 hours. This includes training, site visits, proposal reading, and funding allocation. Please note that all volunteer meetings are held during regular business hours.
