This summer, United Way of Midland’s Club Read Initiative continued to boost literacy and learning for local youth. In partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Midland, Casa de Amigos, and Opportunity Tribe Fun Academy, the program served 302 children across multiple sites with engaging reading, enrichment, and mentoring activities to combat the “summer slide.”

Through assessments, 98% of participants maintained or improved their reading skills, logging over 4,500 hours of reading. The program wrapped up with a joyful End-of-Summer Celebration at Urban Air Adventure Park, attended by more than 300 children, staff, and volunteers.

The success of Club Read was made possible by generous support from ExxonMobil, Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust, and The Warren Charitable Foundation. With an investment of just $43 per student, Club Read continues to deliver long-term impact—building confidence, nurturing a love for learning, and opening doors to brighter futures.
